About Brigadier in the Indian Army
The Brigadier commands a brigade of 3,000-5,000 soldiers comprising 3-4 battalions plus supporting arms. Brigadiers are star-rank officers (one star) and represent the first level of general officer responsibility. They plan and execute operations at the tactical-operational level, coordinate multi-unit operations, and serve on promotion and disciplinary boards. Command of a brigade in a field/counter-insurgency area is considered the most prestigious appointment at this rank.
